ENVIVE Partners with New Mexico Department of Health to Provide a Behavioral/Mental Health Specialty Endorsement for Community Health Workers and Representatives
Albuquerque, New Mexico – August 25, 2025
ENVIVE is pleased to announce that it has partnered with the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) Office of Community Health Workers (OCHW) to develop and implement a Behavioral/Mental Health Specialty Endorsement (BHE) Program for certified Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Representatives (CHW/Rs) in New Mexico. The program’s goal is to enhance the competency of CHWs in behavioral and mental health services so they can more effectively support the diverse needs of New Mexicans in healthcare and social service settings.
Administered by ENVIVE and funded by DOH/OCHW, the BHE Program has three phases. The first phase, which has been completed, established competency standards for the endorsement. The second phase, developing the training modules, is underway. The third phase will be to provide the training. As part of the BHE Program, ENVIVE also will ensure that training goals and objectives are met.
In collaboration with the OCHW, ENVIVE will engage with OCHW staff, CHWs, and Indigenous communities to build a BHE Program that is culturally responsive to local, Indigenous, and trauma-informed communities. ENVIVE also will ensure the competency standards and training materials align with CHW Core Competencies and certification standards.
“Community Health Workers are absolutely essential to bridging gaps in healthcare in the state of New Mexico,” said Lisa K. Jackson, Founder and CEO of ENVIVE. “Behavioral and mental health are integral to overall health and wellness. The Behavioral/Mental Health Specialty Endorsement for CHWs and CHW/Rs will increase their effectiveness and proficiency as they work to address health care disparities in diverse populations, cultures, and needs across the state.”
The BHE Program includes evaluation and reporting elements to track its progress and effectiveness and to confirm that it meets the state’s requirements for professional development and provides measurable improvements in CHW workforce capabilities.
